opposite end
As a little girl
I’d go to the park
never thinking
never caring
wearing only
what was allowed to me
I’d always run to the see saws
for they were the best
I’d glance at the opposite end
no one to lift
no friends to share it with
I’d stroll to the swings
knowing that was the only thing left
not needing a friend
and
having no laughs
As I swayed back and forth
I’d look to the stars
only daring to wish
for one friend
and only one
just someone for
the opposite end of the see saw

*This poem was written in Rumford, Maine on my 16th birthday. I was at a school yard sitting on the swings and the whole poem was written in five minutes and has not been edited since that day except the title. I originally named it Opposite Side.
